The Dakar Rally Edition 2014 left behind the fifth day of the competiotion, the longest of the South American event. It was extremely warm with 40C degrees and temperatures in the cockpits that raised to 60C (just a few entrants use air conditioner).
Dehydration was one of the traps that intimidated the less experienced competitors. Several of them had to receive medical care as a consequence.
The leg was 900-kilometer long between Chilecito and Tucumán. First, it crossed typical zones of the Andes and then it got into the northwestern jungle in Argentina.
In this scenery, the efficiency of the DONGFENG’s cooling system was remarkable, as it was steady no matter how suffocating the day was. Also for the crew it was comforting to trust the truck’s powerful air conditioner, so much that the technical staff specializing in how thinking about keeping it for the future competition vehicle.
Dmitry Sotnikov (Russia, Kamaz) was the best truck driver this time. In the overall results, Gerard de Rooy (Netherland, Iveco) is still first with a total time of 21h17m26s.
Tomorrow, the cities of Salta and Tucumán will be connected by 464 kilometers, 400 of which are special stage course and a mere 64 road section.

DONGFENG Motor Corporation has been signing the most important number of joint-ventures in China with prestigious manufacturers from around the world. The first one was with Nissan in 2003. These days, the company produces in its country models of brands such as Honda, Nissan, Citroën, Peugeot, Renault and Kia.
They will soon make cars for Infiniti, Nissan’s premium brand.
Facts and figures
One of the two most-winning drivers in Dakar Rally history takes part of the event this year. Frenchman Stéphane Peterhansel clinched eleven victories, six in the bike category and five in cars. Russian trucker Vladimir Chagin got seven wins before retiring back in 2011.
