Dakar 2014  Stage 8
Salta Uyuni -Calama
January 13th, 2014

15:22 Quads: Gallegos Lozic finishes fifth

The Chilean is now en route for his first bivouac of the Dakar 2014 on home soil. He finishes the day in fifth place, 23’29' behind his countryman Ignacio Casale, the stage winner.

14:47 Quads: Top 4 finished, awaiting Gallegos Lozic

Behind Casale and Husseini, Sergio Lafuente and Rafal Sonik have just finished, respectively 15’25' and 16’04' behind the day’s winner.

Gallegos Lozic was fifth at the last time check point, more than 5’00 behind the Pole. Watch this space…

14:40 Quads: Casale triumphs!

The Chilean has won the day’s stage and reinforces his lead in the general standings in the quad category, beating Dutchman Sebastian Husseini by 8’38'.

To complete the podium and top 5, the finishing times of Sonik, Lafuente and Gallegos Lozic are required.

14:09 Quads: Casale reinforces his lead after 381 km

The Chilean is aiming for victory on home soil or almost, since the competitors will cross the border just after the finish of the special. He has been steadily increasing his lead since the start.

It now stands at 7’40' over Sebastian Husseini, 14’38' over Sergio Lafuente and 14’41' over Rafal Sonik. Lafuente and Sonik have exchanged positions in the last few kilometres.

12:38 Quads: Gallegos Lozic fifth at CP2

The Chilean has slowed his pace slightly after 250 km and is now in fifth place, 14’43' behind the leader, his countryman Igniacio Casale.

12:12 Quads: Casale still in charge at CP2

Chilean Ignacio Casale must be feeling his home country drawing near and still boasts a solid lead in the quad special, 5’02' ahead of Sebastian Husseini and 11’22' in front of Rafal Sonik.

The Polish rider is still under pressure from Uruguayan Sergio Lafuente, 12’38' behind the leader. Chilean Gallegos Lozic’s time still needs to be recorded to round off the top 5.

10:37 Quads: Gallegos Lozic loses ground

On completion of 140 km, the Chilean is 18’42' from the front after having been in the top 5 previously.

Ignacio Casale still leads with a time of 1:49’39' in front of Sebastian Husseini, 4’19' behind, Sergio Lafuente, 7’41' behind and Rafal Sonik, 9’55' behind the stage leader.

09:53 Quads: Still Casale after 110 km

The Chilean rider’s quad boasts a lead of 3’01' over Sebastian Husseini (Honda). His countryman Gallegos Lozic (Honda) trails him by 4’42’’ in third followed by Rafal Sonik (Yamaha) and Sergio Lafuente (Yamaha) who are in a titanic struggle for fourth place: only four seconds separate them at this point of the stage!

08:50 Quads: The state of play after 50 km

Ignacio Casale (Yamaha), who regained the lead in the general standings yesterday, has completed the first 50 km with a time of 36’51'. 47” behind him lies Sebastian Husseini (Honda). Chilean rider Gallegos Lozic (Honda) is just 1 second further back.

Sergio Lafuente (Yamaha) is in fourth, 2’40' behind Casale, whilst Rafal Sonik (Yamaha) occupies fifth place, 3’27' behind the current stage leader.
