Expect the unexpected: Unter diesem Motto stand die erste Hälfte der Rallye Dakar für die Sächsische Automobil Manufaktur, kurz SAM. Das Auto von Javier Campillay konnten sie trotz zweier Überschläge bis zum sechsten Tag im Rennen halten, dann aber folgte das Aus – genau wie bei Teamkollege Ilya Kuznetsov.


„Die Dakar macht ihrem Ruf in diesem Jahr alle Ehre“, bringt Sven Knorr, Gründer und CEO der Sächsischen Automobil Manufaktur, den Charakter der 36. Ausgabe der härtesten Rallye der Welt auf den Punkt.


Die sechs Etappen über 4676 Kilometer von Rosario nach Salta forderten die Teilnehmer bis aufs Äußerste. Selbst erfahrene Piloten wie Dakar-Rekordsieger Stéphane Peterhansel sprachen von den härtesten Prüfungen seit dem Umzug der Wüstenrallye  nach Südamerika.


Das Team von SAM stellte sich dieser Herausforderung erstmals mit zwei Autos und bekam die Strapazen der Dakar knallhart zu spüren. Mit zwei Überschlägen innerhalb von drei Tagen bescherte das chilenisch-argentinische Duo Javier Campillay/José Ocampo den SAM-Mechanikern reichlich Arbeit.


Das Ziel der vierten Etappe beispielsweise erreichte der SAM 30D CC mit der Startnummer 393 erst um 7 Uhr morgens, die Abfahrt war eigentlich für 7.30 Uhr terminiert. Mit Karenzzeit blieben den Schraubern also gerade einmal zweieinhalb Stunden, um den Allrad-Prototypen wieder in einen passablen Zustand zu versetzen.


Das 13 Personen umfassende SAM-Team wurde für all diese Mühen jedoch nicht belohnt. Auf der fünften Etappe wurde die Fahrt von Campillay/Ocampo durch ein Motorproblem – eine Folge des Überschlags – gestoppt. Am sechsten Tag folgte dann das endgültige Aus für den gelben SAM 30D CC durch einen Kupplungsschaden.


Das baugleiche Auto von Ilya Kuznetsov/Roman Elagin (Startnummer 383) war zu diesem Zeitpunkt ebenfalls schon ausgeschieden. Kuznetsov kämpfte zu Beginn nicht nur mit den widrigen Bedingungen der Dakar, sondern vor allem mit einer Lungenentzündung. A


ls der russische Staatsmeister am zweiten Tag durch einen technischen Defekt zurückgeworfen wurde, setzte er die Fahrt bei einsetzender Dunkelheit nicht auf der Rallyeroute, sondern auf der Landstraße fort. Durch diese Entscheidung ließ Kuznetsov zu viele Wegpunkte aus und wurde daher von der Wertung ausgeschlossen.


„Der Ausfall von Ilya Kuznetsov ist sehr ärgerlich, da wir ohne den Wertungsausschluss normal hätten weiterfahren können, aber so sind nun einmal die Regeln“, erklärt Knorr. „Was in den nächsten Tagen passierte, ist einfach unbeschreiblich. Der ‚Dakar-Spirit‘ war allgegenwärtig.




Das Team hat einen tollen Job gemacht, auf unvorhersehbare Gegebenheiten fantastisch reagiert und in allen Situationen großen Kampfgeist bewiesen. Auch Javier und Claudio zolle ich größten Respekt. Sie haben bewiesen, dass sie ein großes Kämpferherz haben.“



Über SAM:


Die Sächsische Automobil Manufaktur, kurz SAM, wurde 2009 durch den Unternehmer und Visionär Sven Knorr in Plauen (Vogtland) gegründet. Bereits ein Jahr später stellte das Privatteam sein erstes Offroad-Fahrzeug fertig und sorgte international für Aufsehen. 2011 stürmte Matthias Kahle beim Auftakt zum Marathon-Weltcup, der Baja Italia, auf den dritten Platz.


Nur wenige Monate später erzielte Nasser Al-Attiyah mit dem SAM sogar den Gesamtsieg bei der Baja Qatar. Bei der Rallye Dakar im Januar 2013 folgte dann der nächste Höhepunkt in der Karriere des in Sachsen gebauten Allrad-Prototyp namens SAM 30D CC: Matthias Kahle fuhr bei der härtesten Rallye der Welt auf den 13. Gesamtrang. Diesen Januar nimmt das Team von SAM die „Dakar“ erstmals mit zwei Fahrzeugen in Angriff.
