Dakar Rally 2014  Stage 6
TUCUMAN to SALTA
January 9th, 2014

13:54 Bikes: After the top 3 finishers

In fourth place, Spaniard Joan Barreda finished 2’22' behind the day’s winner, with Cyril Despres finishing fifth, 2’55' behind his countryman, whilst Helder Rodrigues is sixth, 4’21' behind Duclos.

13:38 Bikes: Duclos, Coma and Metge at the finish

This is the top three of the day’s special. Even if Marc Coma had disappeared from the radar for several hours, he did have a blistering start to the beginning of the special.

Alain Duclos finishes first, with a lead of 1’15' over the general standings leader and 1’49' over Michael Metge, who earns a superb third placed finish.

13:28 Bikes: Gaps stable out in front after 390 km

Alain Duclos is still out in front, with a similar lead to the previous reading: 1’56' over Michael Metge. At 350 km the gap was 2’11' and at the end of the first section it was 2’33'. Ten kilometres remain in this bike special stage.

13:06 Bikes: Duclos still leads after 355 km

The Sherco rider is still leading the dance on two wheels ahead of the Yamaha ridden by Michael Metge (2’11' behind) and the Honda of Joan Barreda Bort, 3’09' behind. Cyril Despres occupies fourth place, 3’51” behind his fellow Frenchman and in front of Helder Rodrigues who trails Duclos by 4’11'.

11:40 Bikes: The bikes get started again

The day’s leading bikers have resumed riding against the clock in the second section of the special. The finishing line awaits in 104 kilometres further on.

10:49 Bikes: Rodrigues in front of Despres

In the last few kilometres before the neutralised zone, Helder Rodrigues has moved into fifth place ahead of Cyril Despres. The Portuguese rider trails the stage leader by 4’09' as opposed to 4’31” for the Frenchman.

10:46 Bikes: Leading trio unchanged at the end of section 1

Alain Duclos leads Michael Metge by 2’33' and Marc Coma by 2’44'. The fourth placed rider should be Joan Barreda, 3’31' behind the Frenchman, but this can only be confirmed when Cyril Despres has arrived at the end of the special stage’s first part.

10:43 Bikes: Duclos quickest at the end of section 1

Sherco rider Alain Duclos has recorded the best time on the 234-km first section of the special stage and has now entered the 62-km neutralised zone. His closest pursuers, normally Michael Metge and Marc Coma, should arrive shortly.

10:27 Bikes: Chaleco falls

Francisco Lopez has fallen after 211 km of the special. The incident took place in the bed of a dried up river. The rider is okay, but the same cannot be said of his bike.

10:13 Bikes: Barreda and Despres in the top 5 after 160 km

Duclos, Metge and Coma still occupy the virtual podium, in that order. Joan Barreda is fourth 3’54” behind the stage leader. Cyril Despres has climbed up to fifth, 4’11' behind his countryman, and is followed by Helder Rodrigues, 4’21' behind Duclos.

09:50 Bikes: Duclos breaks away, Coma controlling after 160 km

As the riders approach the end of the first section, it seems that Marc Coma has slightly slowed his pace, since his main rivals in the general standings are under control.

It is Alain Duclos who has the bit between his teeth, confirming his position as leader over the last 50 km, with an advantage that has stretched to 3’45' over Coma. He is now followed by Michael Metge, 3’24' behind
