Dakar 2014 Stage 8
Salta Uyuni -Calama
January 13th, 2014

13:59 Bikes: Big loss of time for Duclos at the finish
The French leader of the Sherco team has lost 34’49' in the day’s special. As a result, he leaves some breathing space for Jordi Viladoms and is now under the threat of Jeremias Israel Esquerre.
13:57 Bikes: Metge finishes sixth
The Frenchman has sneaked in between Olivier Pain and Riaan Van Nikierk in the provisional results with a sixth placed finish, 12’58' behind the day’s winner Cyril Despres.
13:52 Bikes: General standings top 3 unchanged
Finishing in eighth place behind Przygoski, Jordi Villadoms trailed in 13’40’’ behind the day’s winner. Third in the general standings, he should still benefit from the problems encountered by Alain Duclos and thus keep his place on the virtual podium, all the more so in light of the fact that Jeremias Israel Esquerre has finished with a similar time to the Spaniard.
13:49 Bikes: Finish: after the podium places
Portugal’s Helder Rodrigues has grabbed fourth place today, 6’44' behind the stage winner, beating fifth placed Olivier Pain, 10’46' his countryman Despres and South African Van Niekerk, once again well placed in sixth, 13’21' behind the day’s winner.
13:03 Bikes: Finish: Despres, Barreda, Coma
There has been no change over the final kilometres between the three leaders from the start on this eighth stage of the Dakar 2014: Cyril Despres (Yamaha) is victorious on this special, 2’10' ahead of Joan Barreda Bort (Honda) and 2’16' in front of Marc Coma, meaning very little changes for the leading Spanish duo in the bike general standings.
12:41 Bikes: Top 3 stable after 427 km
With the finishing line nearby, the leading trio is made up of Cyril Despres, Joan Barreda and Marc Coma. Whilst there is a gap of 2’11' between the Frenchman and the first of the two Spaniards, there are only 9' seconds between the Honda and the KTM.
11:42 Bikes: Behind the podium places at CP2
The first group of pursuers is made up of Olivier Pain in fifth place (6’00' behind the stage leader) followed by South African Van Niekerk (7’24' behind), Slovenian Stefan Svitko (8’03' behind) and Frenchman (8’43' behind Despres).
Also in this group, Jordi Villadoms, third in the general standings, trials the leader by 8’57', whilst his nearest pursuer in the general standings, Alain Duclos, trails the stage leader by more than a half hour for the moment, after having suffered technical problems it would seem.
11:36 Bikes: Leading trio unchanged after 298 km
The Yamaha of Cyril Despres is still in the lead with a time of 3:55’42'. The Frenchman boasts a lead of 2’14' over Marc Coma and 2’18' over Joan Barreda. The gaps have not changed much over the stage as we enter the last third of the bike and quad special.
10:54 Bikes: Despres leads after 250 km at CP2
Frenchman Cyril Despres (Yamaha) is still in command of the stage after 250 km, even if he now only leads Spaniard Joan Barreda Bort (Honda) by 2’11’’. In third, Marc Coma (KTM) is only 6 seconds behind his countryman.
