Dakar Rally 2014 Stage 9
Calama - Iquique
January 14th, 2014

16:21 Trucks: De Rooy finishes second
19’07' behind the day’s winner Andrey Karginov (Kamaz), Gerard De Rooy (Iveco) has finished in second place on the day’s special, ahead of Dmitry Sotnikov (Kamaz) in third who is 28’48' behind the winner.
However, he could be relegated down the time sheet by trucks that have yet to finish: Eduard Nikolaev (Kamaz) and Ales Loprais (Tatra). Watch this space…
15:50 Trucks: Karginov finishes first
Russian Andrey Karginov has crossed the finishing line with a time of 4:59’09'. For the moment, he is the sole driver to have finished this stage. It looks likely that he will be the day’s winner in the truck special.
13:46 Trucks: Loprais moves up to fourth at CP1
After 201 km, Karginov (Kamaz) with a time of 2:16’17' leads De Rooy (Iveco) by 6’32' and Sotnikov (Kamaz) by 7’18', so there is little change on the provisional podium.
However, behind the top 3, Ales Loprais (Tatra) has moved up to fourth place, taking advantage of the problems of Pieter Versluis (Man) as well as putting 1’24' between himself and Marcel Van Vliet (Man).
13:29 Trucks: Mechanical problems for Versluis
The Man truck driven by the Dutchman who was in fourth place has suffered mechanical problems. The driver and his crew are carrying out repairs and have been doing so since 12.45 pm local time.
12:45 Trucks: Nikolaev subit in trouble after 124 km
At the time check after 124 km, there is no change in the leading places, but Eduard Nikolaev is losing more and more time. The Russian is already 10’41' behind the stage leader.
12:02 Trucks: Karginov takes command after 87 km
With an advantage of 1’44', Kamaz driver Andrey Karginov now leads Gerard De Rooy (Iveco). Dmitry Sotnikov (Kamaz) is in third, 3’18' behind his team-mate and countryman, ahead of Pieter Versluis (Man), Marcel van Vliet (Man) and Ales Loprais (Tatra), respectively 4’31', 5’14' and 6’00 behind the new stage leader.
11:25 Trucks: Top 10 within less than 2 minutes after 39 km
This is an illustration of how intense the battle is in the truck special. At this point on the stage Gerard De Rooy (Iveco) leads, 4 seconds in front of Andrey Karginov (Kamaz). Next come Eduard Nikolaev, Dmitry Sotnikov, Marcel van Vliet and Pieter Versluis within less than 1’15' from De Rooy.
10:47 Trucks: The truck special is underway
At 10.31 aM local time, the Kamaz truck of Andrey Karginov got to grips with the special and its 422 kilometres on the programme this Tuesday. He is followed by the Iveco driven by Gerad De Rooy and his team-mate and countryman Dmitry Sotnikov.
