501 - Kamaz set for a hat-trick in the general standings?

As if in formation, the Kamaz drivers Eduard Nikolaev, Andrey Karginov (36'24" behind his team leader) and Ayrat Mardeev (40'27" behind Karginov), have reigned supreme over the last few stages.


All that remains is to see whether fourth-placed Gerard De Rooy will be able to throw a spanner in the Russians' works.


A possible place on the podium, 4'30", is within his reach. At 1:h19'47" behind the general standings leader, the first Tatra truck driven by Ales Loprais is fifth.

510 - Karginov wins the day!

Kamaz driver Andrey Karginov has completed the day's special in 5:16'30, ahead of the Iveco Petronas team leader, Gerad De Rooy, 2'48" behind.


Ales Loprais is third and the first Tatra driver, 8'04" behind the Russian, but ahead of Italian Miki Biasion, himself 10'57" behind Karginov.


General standings leader Eduard Nikolaev rounds off the Top 5, 14'02" behind his team-mate and stage winner.

510 - Karginov in charge at CP5

At the 417-km point, after having been led by Gerard De Rooy, Andrey Karginov seems to have taken charge of the truck special with a lead of 2'20".

Third placed Ales Loprais trails the Russian by 7'28", ahead of Italian Miki Biasion who is 9'55" behind the stage leader.

The Czech Tatra driver has finished section 1 of the special in third place, 5'05" behind provisional leader Gerard De Rooy. 6'12" behind, Miki Biasion occupies fourth place, in front of Eduard Nikolaev, 7'19" behind the current stage leader.

500 - Advantage to De Rooy at the end of section 1

The Iveco driven by Gérard De Rooy has finished the first part of the day's special in the lead, 18 seconds ahead of Andrey Karginov's Kamaz. For the moment, only these two competitors have finished the first section.

The two Kamaz were stopped side by side before resuming the special at the 190-km point, perhaps due to one of the crews getting stuck in the sand.

510 - Karginov leads De Rooy at CP2

The Kamaz of Andrey Karginov is now in front on the truck special stage, with a lead of 45” over Gerard De Rooy and 1'30” over Italian Miki Biasion.


Ales Loprais is fourth, 2'01" behind the Russian, followed by Pieter Versluis, 2'24" off the lead, Ayrat Mardeev, 2'41" behind Karginov, and general standings leader Eduard Nikolaev, 3'10" behind the stage leader.

No change for the first two places, but Miki Biasion has moved into third, 12" behind his team leader. He is followed by (23" off the lead), Versluis (29" behind De Rooy) and Van Vliet (1'13" behind the current stage leader). Ayrat Mardeev is currently in seventh position.

500 - De Rooy takes the initiative at CP1

The first trucks have reached CP1 after 69 km: Gerard De Rooy leads by 1 second from Andrey Karginov. Ayrat Mardeev is third 1'32” behind De Rooy. At present, they are the only trucks to have reached this point on the stage.

The Kamaz Master team's Russian driver was the first truck driver to take starter's orders at 12.35 PM local time, and was followed onto the tracks by his team-mate Ayrat Mardeev and the two Ivecos driven by Gerard De Rooy and Miki Biasion.

Copiapo-La Serena: last of the dunes on the horizon

After a 90-km link stage, the 441-km of the special will not be a trivial matter. Plenty of surprises could still occur on the Dakar 2013. The start on the road section will be relatively late: the timetable takes account of the mercurial weather conditions in the area.


The "Camanchaca" hangs over the first part of the morning in general, so it will only be once this thick fog has dissipated that the first bikes will tackle the last dunes on the rally. The sandy part accounts for a third of the special's length. Thereafter, the rally will head south, on wide tracks which can sometimes hide rocks that can shatter dreams.


On the morning of this penultimate stage of the Dakar 2013, it can be considered that the situation is under control in the quad and car categories where Marcos Patronelli and Stéphane Peterhansel both boast comfortable leads. In the truck race, the three Kamaz leading the category could still witness attacks, even if overall victory seems to be within their grasp.


On two wheels, however, with five pilots within a bracket of one hour, everything is still mathematically possible, even though the impression is clearly advantageous to the official KTM riders.
