Belarusian Siarhei Vyazovich (Maz) rounded off today's stage with a neat fifth place, 27'53' behind the fastest time, set by Andrey Karginov.

Gerard de Rooy's lead is getting smaller with each passing day: 32 minutes on Monday, 13 yesterday, 7'55' today The Dutchman's grip on what seemed certain victory seems to be slipping.

With Eduard Nikolaev about an hour and a half back, the Kamazes are unlikely to have a second man vying for victory.


Further back, the still not fully known consequences of Dmitry Sotnikov's mishaps in today's stage give Aleš Loprais hope of clinching fourth place.

Aleš Loprais (Tatra) has won his first stage win at the 2014 Dakar, beating Andrey Karginov (Kamaz) by 37'. Exactly six minutes behind the victor, Gerard de Rooy (Iveco) takes the last podium spot, with Eduard Nikolaev (Kamaz) further back at 13'57'.

Kamaz's Russian, Andrey Karginov, was the first driver to post a time for today's special: 5 h 11'32'.

Aleš Loprais is still in the virtual lead with a total time of 3 h 10'27'. Russia's Andrey Karginov remains his closest pursuer, 1'35' back, with Gerard de Rooy at 6'18'. Thus, Karginov is clawing back just under 5 minutes from the Dutch driver. The two men were separated by 13'28' yesterday evening.

Eduard Nikolaev sits in third place, 13'18' behind leader Aleš Loprais (Tatra). Siarhei Vyazovich (Maz) is fifth at 23'37', ahead of Anton Shibalov (+28'46').
