The tandem of Lewis Williamson and Tim Sugden (Strakka Racing #42) went quickest on day two of Renault Sport Trophy collective testing. The British duo set the new reference time for the Renault Sport R.S. 01 at Motorland Aragón in 1:52.537.


They were followed by the duos of Kevin Korjus and Fredrik Blomstedt (R-ace GP #3) and Tanart Sathienthirakul and Fran Rueda (Team Marc VDS EG 0,0 #15). The Renault Sport Trophy will be back in testing action on March 30 and 31 at Circuito Estoril.


For this second day at Motorland Aragón, the list of runners remained the same with the exception of Kevin Korjus, who moved from the #2 R-ace GP car to the #3.


The #42 Renault R.S. 01 entrusted to Lewis Williamson and Tim Sugden dominated the morning with a best time of 1:52.583, ahead of the pair composed of Tanart Sathienthirakul and Fran Rueda and the duet of Markus Palttala and Fabian Schiller (Team Marc VDS EG 0,0 #9).
 

In the afternoon, the Brits lowered the reference time to 1:52.537, ahead of the pairings of Kevin Korjus - Fredrik Blomstedt and Pieter Schothorst - Jeroen Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur #21).
 


Lewis Williamson dominates both sessions
 
“I discovered the Renault Sport R.S. 01 for the first time yesterday with the team and everything was new for us. Overall, the car feels good. You can push it to its limit and it offers an interesting challenge. No matter the car, we always try to reach its limit and give it all we have.


In my opinion, the most impressive thing is the minimum corner speed you can take with the car compared to other tin-tops. I did the LM P2 rookie test last year and it was the same idea, very different than an open-wheel car. I try to keep an open mind so that we can be as ready as possible for the first race of the season.


It looks like we are heading in the right direction and I look forward to getting going.”

“A long time had passed since I last drove before these tests and I’m satisfied with the progress made both in my driving and the set ups during these two days. The pace shown in our final session shows our enormous potential.


 I had already driven the Renault Sport R.S. 01 once, and this car is still quite challenging as it is quite a lot quicker than a GT3! »

“These tests at Motorland Aragón represent an excellent starting point because it is the first time we’ve had all our drivers that will race in the championship. Before coming here, we tried out four AM drivers to accompany Markus Palttala in the #9 before we decided on Fabian Schiller.


We are here to help him make progress and we look forward to starting the season to show this pairing’s potential of. In the #15, Tanart Sathienthirakul and Fran Rueda are two young drivers that have interesting profiles for the Renault Sport Trophy.
