Maz Nawaz went two-for-two in race wins on his way to a Sodi World Series (SWS) Senior Cup triumph on Monday night (23 October) at Dubai Kartdrome.

Lloyd Carter took a class win in Masters and Patrick Debattista earned a hard fought SWS Junior Cup victory.

Senior Cup & Masters

It was a near perfect performance on the night by Dojomoto driver Maz Nawaz.  He just missed the mark in qualifying, falling 0.093 seconds off the pace of teammate Anjum Shaikh, who claimed the best lap time of 1:11.878.

After that is was all Nawaz; who went on to take both heats and claimed the full 80 points to take the top step of the SWS Senior Cup podium.  Ramin Arnecke took home second place silverware on 67 points and Anjum Shaikh claimed third with 66 points.

Nawaz speculated that he was lucky to get the second heat win while Shaikh was tangled up with the drivers behind.  He said, “The only threat was going to be Anjum, but by the time he overtook Al Hammadi and Ramin, it was too late.”

In the Masters category, for drivers 35 years and older, Lloyd Carter took top honours on 45 points and Juergen Schmitz claimed second place with 41 points.

SWS Junior Cup

Veteran racers Patrick Debattista and Kyle Kumaran battled it out for the top step of the podium, with Debattista striking first, securing pole position with a best lap time of 1:20.499, just three thousandths of a second quicker than Kumaran.

Kumaran struck back in heat one, taking the chequered flag 0.322 seconds ahead of Debattista, with William Wade taking third place.

Heat two swung back in Debattista’s favour and he won convincingly, crossing the finish line a full 10.756 seconds ahead of Federico Al Rifai, while Kumaran dropped to fifth.

When the final points tallied, Patrick Debattista topped the grid on 76 points and Kyle Kumaran earned second place with a total of 70 points.  Consistent placing over two heats secured 64 points and third place for William Wade.

Debattista was thrilled to win a contest with a tough competitor like Kumaran.  He said, “I just feel really happy with how I did today.”
