Motus One Racing’s Moorgate Motorsport Finance McLaren 650S GT3 made a big impact in its maiden Britcar Endurance Championship races at Silverstone today (24 Apr). The Will Powell/Dave Scaramanga McLaren led the opening race outright on its way to a top-10 placing before scoring a class podium and top-five overall finish in Race 2.
Starting Race 1 in 11th place overall on the 34-car grid, Motus Managing Director Powell sliced his way in to second place prior to a Safety Car period with 12mins on the clock after setting the fastest race lap five times. Will then led for 12-laps in his 28-lap stint before pitting for Scaramanga to take over the McLaren, a steady run home which included a second unscheduled pit-stop, earning the duo fourth place in Class 1 and 10th place overall.
Starting from the fifth row of the grid for Race 2, Scaramanga was thwarted in making up places due to a 16min Safety Car period caused by an opening lap accident before handing over to Powell. Will resumed fourth in class, 18th overall, with 32mins remaining, but scythed his way through the field, recording a very notable third in class, fifth overall – a little over a second away from a fourth-place finish.

It was a very busy day for Silverstone-based Motus One Racing who also had Danny Krywyj/Miles Lacey (SEAT Cupra TCR) plus Rod Goodman (Praga R1 Turbo) contesting the two Britcar races. Krywyj/Lacey started Race 1 10th in the C4 class but recorded fifth – missing out on fourth by just 0.467secs. Race 2 ended early when the SEAT was innocently caught up in the opening lap accident.
Northamptonshire-based businessman Goodman (pictured at bottom), having only driven the Praga for the first time in testing the previous day, was classified seventh in the Praga category in the Britcar opener, having led his class and running as high as third overall, before a cooling issue caused delays. In the second race, Goodman finished fifth in class, a fine ninth overall.
Will Powell, Team Principal & Driver
“I’m delighted that the McLaren was so competitive straight out of the box.To score strong overall and class results on the McLaren’s début is very encouraging for Motus and our partners. There’s huge potential in the car for the rest of the season.I’m already eagerly looking forward to the next round at Snetterton.“
