Interest continues to grow for next year’s non-championship Hankook 6H ABU DHABI on 21-22 January, with more than 20 teams having already registered 30 entries collectively.

The newly modified Yas Marina Circuit, home to the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix every year since 2009, made its first explorative appearance on the 24H SERIES calendar in 2019 before returning as a non-championship, six-hour event last year.


The Hankook 6H ABU DHABI was held one week after the season-opening Hankook 24H DUBAI in a trial ‘double header’ format by CREVENTIC, and following positive feedback from teams and circuit management alike, the event was swiftly greenlit for a second edition in 2022.
 


Of the 30 entries registered so far, all but two have also confirmed an entry for the Hankook 24H DUBAI one week earlier on 13-14-15 January.   
 


Car Collection Motorsport is among the most notable names confirmed the GT field. The German team took overall victory at the inaugural running of the event in 2020, and has confirmed two Audi R8 LMS GT3s will be on the grid. Like Car Collection Motorsport, Attempto Racing, a regular Hankook 24H DUBAI competitor since 2007, has also registered two Audi R8 LMS GT3s for both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
 


Leipert Motorsport, last year’s overall runner-up, made its GT3-class return in the 24H SERIES after a five-year hiatus at last month’s Hankook 12H HOCKENHEIMRING, and has now registered its Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo for both endurance events in the UAE. The Raging Bull will be further represented in Abu Dhabi by series returnee, ARC Bratislava.
 


Inception Racing by Optimum was the overall polesitter at last year’s event, and will once again compete at Yas Marina with its McLaren 720S GT3. Regular BMW customer RHC Jorgensen-Strom by Century, which last competed in the 24H SERIES on home turf at the Circuit of the Americas in 2019, has registered a brand-new BMW M4 GT3.
 


Inaugural 24H SERIES Continents Overall GT Teams’ champion Herberth Motorsport, which has already secured two outright wins so far in 2021, has confirmed the only two Porsche 991 GT3 Rs so far for the uninterrupted six-hour event at Yas Marina.
 


Finally, and rounding out the field’s Italian contingent of supercars, Spain’s PCR Sport has confirmed the sole Ferrari 488 GT3 for the Hankook 6H ABU DHABI thus far. In doing so, the 11-strong GT3 category now features six different marques.


 
Fan favourite Cor Euser Racing is set to compete in the GTX category with its tenured MARC II V8, while MRS GT-Racing’s two entries are set to take on Red Camel-Jordans.nl in the battle for Porsche Cup honours.
 


A four-strong GT4 field already includes the BMW M4 GT4s of former Hankook 24H DUBAI class winner Century Motorsport and the United  Arab Emirate’s own 3Y Technology. The pair are set to face the Mercedes-AMG GT4s of the returning Jönsson consult / eva solo and multi-time Hankook 24H DUBAI class winner, Dragon Racing. The latter is permanently based at the Dubai Autodrome.
 


The TCE division meanwhile already features a combative mix of TCR and TCX entrants. Overall TCE Teams’ championship contender AC Motorsport is sure to be among the touring car front runners with its Audi RS 3 LMS, so far the only example of Ingolstadt’s tin top on the Abu Dhabi entry list.



CUPRA Racing will be represented by Sally Racing, which finished runner-up in-class at last year’s Hankook 6H ABU DHABI, and World Touring Car Cup regular, Zengő Motorsport. Series newcomer GSR Competition rounds out the TCR field with a lone Opel Astra.
 


In the TCX class, former SP3 Teams’ champion CWS Engineering will pit its Ginetta G55 against the Ligier J2S R of the returning CTF Performance. The French team last competed in the 24H SERIES in 2018, and took class victory at that year’s Hankook 24H PORTIMAO.
 


Emphasizing the multi-national reach of the 24H SERIES since its introduction in 2006, the 30 entrants for the 2022 Hankook 6H ABU DHABI so far represent almost a dozen different nationalities.
 


In a first for the 24H SERIES, a category has also been introduced specifically for five factory-entered Aston Martin Vantage GT8Rs. The newest variant of Aston Martin’s Vantage slots into the British marque’s sports car line-up between GT3 and GT4, and will be run in the bespoke ‘GT8R’ class next year at both Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
