Nick Cassidy (Envision Virgin Racing) steered to his second pole position in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship with the benchmark in qualifying ahead of the ABB New York City E-Prix Round 10 - pipping Jean-Eric Vergne (DS TECHEETAH) and Alex Lynn (Mahindra Racing).



Nick Cassidy laid down a real marker in qualifying ahead of the ABB New York City E-Prix Round 10 as he fired to pole position ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne (DS TECHEETAH) by some 0.161 seconds, with Mahindra Racing's Alex Lynn rounding out the top three.



Cassidy blew the doors off the rest in Super Pole with a lap that looked ultra cool and clean but mighty rapid - his 1m09.338s proved the fastest time of the day so far in-fact on an ever-evolving Brooklyn Street Circuit.



The Kiwi left the pit-lane with it all on to beat Lynn's then-benchmark but swept the pressure aside with aplomb. Lynn was first to run in the six-driver shootout and, looking neat and tidy, extracted the maximum from his Mahindra to set the early pace.



The Brit would wind up third following Vergne's late flier. The Frenchman left nothing on the table but despite a lively-looking effort, DS TECHEETAH's double Formula E champion couldn't quite steal the initiative and seal a 13th pole position. He will have to settle for second and a good base to attack from in Round 10.



BMW i Andretti Motorsport's Maximilian Guenther fared well in the morning's practice sessions and set off in search of a maiden Formula E pole position. Despite being a tenth of-a-second down through Sector 1, a rapid middle section saw him narrowly shy of the ultimate pace - good enough for fourth come the chequered flag.



Sebastien Buemi (Nissan e.dams) loves it around the Red Hook docklands - as the best qualifier in Brooklyn with three pole positions from the six E-Prix to-date in New York City. He topped Group Qualifying by 0.068s from Vergne but a poor first sector left him fifth and more than three-tenths shy of Cassidy.



TAG Heuer Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein will be disappointed with the lap he managed to string together. The German looked busy behind the wheel but slipped some 0.4 seconds down on Cassidy's pole time.
Group Qualifying drama


Standings leader Edoardo Mortara (ROKiT Venturi Racing) struggled in Group 1 of Group Qualifying, setting the slowest time of those first six runners as he contended with just 200kW of power available to him after problems with a switch in the cockpit. "It wasn't the qualifying we were looking for," said the Swiss-Italian. "We had a problem with the scenario switch and it's incredibly frustrating and a bit of bad timing."



There was more drama for Sam Bird (Jaguar Racing), too, following his FP1 shunt and the mad dash made by his team to prep the car in time for qualifying - eventually beating the parc ferme clock by just six seconds following a heroic rebuild effort.



Bird found himself in contact with Nissan e.dams' Oliver Rowland with the former on his cooldown lap. Both ended up in the run off and pointing in the wrong direction with Bird managing just 20th to Rowland's eighth.
