•Five consecutive rounds from January 22 to February 19

•Yas Marina Circuit and Dubai Autodrome to host 15-race series

•Fifth season to debut Race 2 partially-reversed grids

•Organizers now accepting entries

Organizers of the F3 Asian Championship Certified by FIA have published the dates for its fifth season, with the five-round, 15-race schedule running consecutively from January 21 to February 19, and held at two FIA Grade I Middle East tracks; Yas Marina Circuit and Dubai Autodrome.

The series is accepting entries now and, as in previous years, every effort has been made to offer maximum track time and the highest organizational standards for minimum budget. The new-for-2022 Race 2 top 10 reverse grids, meanwhile, are expected to add to the spectacle as well as the intensity of the competition.

The season gets underway at the Yas Marina Circuit on January 21, before moving to the Dubai Autodrome for three further consecutive triple-header rounds, the last of which will be held in conjunction with the Asian Le Mans Series. The championship returns to the home of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for its season finale on February 18-19, also racing alongside the Asian Le Mans Series.

Over just four seasons, the F3 Asian Championship has earned a reputation as a highly competitive, international series, attracting the best and brightest junior single seater talents in the world to take advantage of the opportunity to race competitively in a professional, FIA super license points-earning series during what has traditionally been the ‘off’ season for European and US motorsport.

The careers of many Asian series alumni have been boosted by their participation in the championship. Reigning F3 Asian Champion, current Alpine F1 Junior and 2021 FIA F2 front-runner Zhou Guanyu of China, is knocking on the door of F1, the 22-year-old widely tipped to become the first-ever Chinese driver to compete at the pinnacle of the sport.

Nikita Mazepin meanwhile, third in the 2020 F3 Asian Championship, is already firmly ensconced at the Haas F1 Team.

Countless others have gone on to become both F1 junior team members as well as excel as they climb the FIA single seater development ladder.

Four former Asian Formula 3 Championship drivers are currently part of the Red Bull Junior Team: Last season’s championship series second runner-up Jehan Daruvala of India recently took his maiden F2 victory at Monza;

Jack Doohan, who contested two seasons in Asia each time narrowly missing out on the title, is currently second in the FIA F3 Championship standings; super-quick Kiwi Liam Lawson is proving a strong championship contender in his debut DTM season; while Ayumu Iwasa, reigning F3 Asian Rookie title holder, has been an FIA F3 podium finisher this year.

Commented Davide De Gobbi, General Manager of series organizer Top Speed:
“The F3 Asian Championship Certified by FIA is unique in that we attract the best junior single seater teams and drivers from Asia as well as the rest of the world. We are confident of a strong grid for this season, with the leading teams from Europe and Asia all returning to the championship, and a great deal of interest already shown by drivers and managers.”

Last year saw the arrival of multiple-championship winning team Prema Powerteam, the Abu Dhabi Racing by Prema outfit winning the title with Zhou from Pierre-Louis Chovet at Pinnacle Motorsport. Zhuhai-based BlackArts Racing took the prize in 2020 with Dutchman Joey Alders, denying Pinnacle Motorsport’s Jack Doohan the championship.

The first two seasons were dominated by British team Hitech Grand Prix, winning in 2018 with Raoul Hyman and the following year with current Honda Super GT driver Ukyo Sasahara.

With a commitment to creating a fair, consistent and level playing field, all F3 Asian Championship drivers compete in identical Tatuus F3 T-318 race cars, thus ensuring success is dictated by driver skill rather than budget.

The championship is strictly administered by an English-speaking, experienced international team of scrutineers, race officials and stewards, with a technical package provided by championship partners Tatuus/Autotecnica. Giti Tires continues its long-standing series partnership as official tire into a fifth season.
