DS TECHEETAH and former Rome winner Jean-Eric Vergne topped the timesheets in the final practice ahead of Qualifying in Round 4, Rome with a time of 1m39.082s. The Frenchman led TAG Heuer Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein (1m39.253s) and Jaguar TCS Racing's Sam Bird (1m39.322s) who went third fastest.
As track temperatures started to climb, all 22 drivers were pushing their cars to the limit ahead of Qualifying. With five different manufacturers making up the top five, a total of ten drivers all finished the session within a second of each other.
The second session of the day caused more problems for Mahindra's Oliver Rowland who wrestled with his car, sliding through Turns 12 and 13 - the same spot that he crashed earlier in the morning. For Envision Racing's Robin Frijns, the Dutch driver span between Turns 9
The chicane that makes up Turns 12 and 13 took TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team's Andre Lotterer out of the running for the session after he clipped the inside of Turn 13, causing him to stop on track before the red flag came out. Moments earlier, Avalanche Andretti's Oliver Askew made the same mistake although the American managed to nurse his car back to the pits.
As for the home race hero Antonio Giovinazzi (DRAGON/PENSKE AUTOSPORT), the Italian driver finished the session 20th with only NIO 333's Oliver Turvey behind him and Andre Lotterer last, who's session was curtailed due to his crash in the chicane.
The votes for FANBOOST ahead of Round 4 so far sees an advantage for Season 6 champion Antonio Felix da Costa (DS TECHEETAH) with 20% of the vote. Second in the leaderboard is Mahindra's Alex Sims and Mercedes-EQ’s Stoffel Vandoorne (both with 14%), while home race hero Antonio Giovinazzi (DRAGON / PENSKE AUTOSPORT) has 12% of the votes.
Voting is open until five minutes into Round 4, which gives you plenty of time to influence the race before we go green in Rome at 1500 local time.
