Yann Erhlacher’s late effort lifted him to the top of the times in the second free practice session at WTCR Race of Spain as the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup field made their final preparations for qualifying at MotorLand Aragón.



The King of WTCR put in a great lap right at the end of the 30-minute session, managing a time of 2m05.579s to head another late improver, Norbert Michelisz, by 0.286s.



“It’s good, I’m comfortable with the car, which is quite important here,” said Cyan Racing Lynk & Co driver Ehrlacher. “So far, so good. It’s only free practice and I don’t know what the others were doing, whether they were pushing or not. I’m happy with my car and that’s the best I can take. I’m pleased with the pace. We still having something to tune on the car to optimise the set-up and then we go for quallie.



“The track changed quite a lot between sessions. It was quite green actually because of a storm and there was quite a lot of sand on the track, and the temperature went up as well. We need to adapt.”



Behind Ehrlacher and Michelisz, Santiago Urrutia ended up third fastest in his Cyan Performance Lynk & Co entry. Goodyear #FollowTheLeader Mikel Azcona was fourth fastest on his 26th birthday, while Yvan Muller put a kerb strike and damage to his front-right wheel behind him to go fifth quickest.



Mehdi Bennani, on his first visit to the Spanish circuit, was sixth in his Comtoyou Team Audi Sport RS3 LMS, ahead of fellow Audi driver Tom Coronel. Dániel Nagy was quickest of the Zengő Motorsport CUPRA Leon Competicións in eighth, ahead of Gilles Magnus, with Thed Björk completing the top 10 in his Lynk & Co.



Comtoyou DHL Team Audi Sport’s Nathanaël Berthon was in P11, ahead of Ma Qing Hua (Lynk & Co) and Esteban Guerrieri who clobbered a tyre stack with some force in his ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport Honda Civic Type R TCR. LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler’s Attila Tassi was in P14 in his Honda, with Rob Huff – fastest in the first session – down in P15 in his CUPRA.



The Hondas of Tiago Monteiro and Néstor Girolami were in P16 and P17 respectively.



Qualifying at WTCR Race of Spain is due to begin at 15h30 local time.
