Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 No. 62:

The No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo started the 25th annual Motul Petit Le Mans IMSA WeatherTech Championship Series race at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta from the fourth GTD Pro class position with qualifying driver James Calado. At the halfway point the popular Ferrari team was leading the GTD Pro class.
 


There were a couple of cautions in the first two hours, so Calado stayed in the Prancing Horse for a double stint and mostly held onto P4 for the busy start of the 10-hour race. After a fuel/tire stop during the first caution on Lap 31, Calado pitted on the second caution on Lap 64 for the same plus a driver change to second rotation pilot, Davide Rigon.
 


Rigon’s stint had a couple of caution flags and Rigon patiently drove his way into the lead in class, along with good team strategy on when they pitted. Regular stops for fuel and tires were all that were required. He led a number of laps during his driving stint and was leading the GTD Pro class at the five-hour mark.
 


Third Risi Petit Le Mans driver Daniel Serra is due up shortly as the team hopes to keep the racing steady and clear from incident for the second half of the 10-hour Petit Le Mans as they seek another victory at the 2.54-mile, 12-turn Braselton, Georgia circuit.

“The first stint was okay. I had a dog-to-dog shift just as I accelerated at the start of the race, so it was in no gear; it was in neutral. Luckily, I found a gear but lost a few positions, but then gained them back. There were a couple of full course yellows, which meant I did two full stints. The car is missing a bit of power, but we’ll see as the race goes on.”
 


Davide Rigon, driver, No. 62 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo:  


“It was a great start of the race. Nothing I have to say about the car. We are competitive with the others but missing a bit of speed. We're happy with the balance and can fight until the end if we avoid any mistakes. We are some seconds slower on the pit and we need to find out why. In general, we are happy with the strategy and feeling good.
 


“Regarding the numerous cautions, it’s probably for someone who crashed in a P2 car in the barrier, and it was very long (caution). There are a lot of cars, both prototype and GTs so it’s very easy to have contact and create a caution. I think as we go on into the race there will be less cautions. I hope.”
