The Hyundai Motor America-supported Bryan Herta Autosport team completed a very strong season in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge by successfully defending the sweep of drivers’, teams’ and manufacturers’ titles won in 2021.


At the final round at Road Atlanta (September 28-October 1) two Elantra N TCR teams stood on the podium. Michael Johnson and Stephen Simpson, in second, equaled their best result of the season while Taylor Hagler and Michael Lewis clinched the championship in third place – their seventh podium of the ten-event schedule.
 


To do so they had to overcome an early delay after Hagler was hit by another competitor. However, through the rest of the two-hour contest they methodically drove up the order and avoided any incidents that would have jeopardised their title hopes.


With Lewis at the wheel for the final stint, the car moved into the class podium places in the final ten laps to seal the pair’s second title together, having won in a Veloster N TCR in 2021. The success was also Lewis’ third with team, having previously taken the 2019 crown, and a third consecutive sweep of the three available championships for the squad.
