Le Mans flair for Maximilian Günther: The 25-year-old took part in a hypercar test for Peugeot on Sunday, after the Bahrain round of the FIA WEC World Endurance Championship. Günther completed about 200 kilometres at the Formula 1 circuit in Sakhir, making a successful debut in the Peugeot 9X8, which will also start at the world famous 24 Hours of Le Mans.



The Peugeot TotalEnergies team turned to the driving skills of the multiple Formula E race winner for the rookie test. The Monaco resident gathered valuable information for Peugeot in the hypercar, and his feedback will now help the further development of the car.

The French team focused on the important long runs during Günther’s stint, with the German racking up a total of 36 laps in the morning.



Maximilian Günther: “I am very grateful to Peugeot for this awesome opportunity. It was mega. I really enjoyed myself and coped well with the hypercar. I did three stints in total, over the course of the two-hour session. At first, I familiarised myself with the car on old tyres.

I then took my place at the wheel with a fresh set of tyres for the long run. It was fantastic to drive a car with a lot of downforce again. It was fascinating to get to grips with the complexity of the state-of-the-art prototype with its hybrid engine, and to experience the power. I could feel the huge amount of downforce that the car generated in the fast corners. It was unbelievable.”



Günther will line up with Maserati MSG Racing in the 2023 FIA Formula E World Championship. The premium Italian car maker is returning to motorsport after over a decade away, and is counting on the wealth of experience of the German driver, who has been a regular starter in the fully-electric series for the past four years. The season-opener takes place on 14th January 2023 in Mexico City.
