A simply amazing weekend for B-Quik Absolute Racing in the final round of Thailand Super Series (TSS) 2022, held at Buriram’s Chang International Circuit, as we won both Super Car GT3 races that comprised this ‘double header’ and sealed the Drivers’ and Teams’ titles.
 


We went into the season closing event in a very finely balanced title fight and we knew we would have to dig deeper than ever before and achieve complete perfection in every area if we were to reclaim the titles in Super Car GT3 such is the competitive standard in this headline category.
 


Sandy Stuvik, chasing a third GT3 Drivers’ title to add to the ones he won with us in 2019 and 2020, and Akash Nandy, looking for his first TSS title in his rookie year, were level pegging in the title race with our closest rival, but we had to be regarded as the underdogs.
 


In Race 1, with Akash starting the #25 Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II from P2 while our title rival was on pole, it was crucial to grab the lead – and the Malaysian seized the advantage in tenacious fashion straight into Turn 1 when the lights went green before proceeding to haul out a 16 second gap by the time the mid race pitstops came round.
 


The pitstops bunched the pack up and then a titanic scrap kicked off between Sandy, who had taken over the #25 Audi, and our key title rival. But with just over seven minutes still on the clock the tables turned against us and Sandy was now in P2 and his turn to chomp at the heels of the race leader.
 


However, a handful of laps later and the race leader suffered a tyre deflation that put that car out of the race and onto zero points score meaning all Sandy had to do was cruise to the finishline to win the title with a race to spare.
 


Fourth overall for Daniel Bilski and Philip Massoud in the #27 Audi, which was also second in GT3 AM, was enough to clinch also the Teams’ title with a race to spare, while fifth place for the #55 Audi shared by Vincente Floriendo and Markus Winkelhock gave us three cars on the podium!
 


After a 27 hour drive by our van drivers from Malaysia to bring crucial new parts to Buriram to get the stricken #26 Audi back on track, parts which only arrived at 4am on Saturday morning, Henk Kiks and Eshan Pieris rewarded all those big efforts of the team with a run into the top ten.
 


Sunday’s Race 2 saw B-Quik Absolute Racing making it two wins out of two, this time it was all about the AM runners as Daniel Bilski and Philip Massoud took their second win of the year with a hard and canny drive.
 


Philip started the car, and after a consistent stint where he posted his fastest times of the year and kept the ‘Pro’ drivers within striking distance he was able to hand over the car to Daniel with an advantage. His fellow Australian then proceeded to open out that advantage for the remainder of the race to take the chequered flag first.
 


Vincente and Markus combined superbly to make it a 1-2 finish for the team in both races and we capped the year off with P7 for the #26 car. However, Henk and Eshan were all set for second place before a GPS error at the pitstop of less than a second saw them being handed a penalty to be served that plunged them down the order. Finally, across the line in P9 came the #25 which also tumbled down after serving a penalty.
 


In Super Car GTC Adisak Tangphuncharoen had a tough weekend in the #26 Cayman GT4 where he had to bounce back from circumstances that conspired against him and fight really hard, which he did in style, while our new driver, Iaro Razanakoto, in the Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport showed just why we put a lot of faith in him as he got to grips with a new level of car and he improved steadily all weekend.
 


So, ends 2022. To win both Super Car GT3 titles at the conclusion of a season that has seen us undertaking huge changes, in fact the team has been restructured from top to bottom and introduced so many new faces on the technical and engineering side, is really of great satisfaction, especially as we had to fight every inch of the way in this highly competitive season.
 


We’re also really delighted with our roster of frontline drivers: Sandy, Akash, Daniel, Philip, Henk, Eshan and Vincente. Every one of them more than exceeded our expectations and played crucial parts in our success.
 


It means we go into the winter break with a solid structure to build on as the team continues to upgrade right across our operational platforms in preparation for 2023.
