Jurado victorious in Clio Cup comeback drive at Hockenheim

04.09.2022: From eighth on the grid, Anthony Jurado (Milan Compétition) delivered a world-class performance to reach the top step of the Clio Cup podium at Hockenheim.

From eighth on the grid, Anthony Jurado (Milan Compétition) delivered a world-class performance to reach the top step of the Clio Cup podium at Hockenheim.

The Frenchman won ahead of pole winner Nicolas Milan (Milan Compétition) and Challenger Alexandre Albouy (GPA Racing) at the end of a breathtaking and fast-paced race in Germany. Pierre Monmaneix (GPA Racing) completed Sunday's 100% French success story with the win in the Gentlemen Drivers Cup.

Nicolas Milan set the pace in Friday's qualifying session ahead of Marc Guillot (Milan Compétition), Jerzy Spinkiewicz (Uniq Racing), Joran Leneutre (JSB Compétition) and David Pouget (GPA Racing).

After a good getaway on Saturday, the Frenchman couldn't repeat his strong start on Sunday as he was passed by Marc Guillot and Jerzy Spinkiewicz, then attacked by David Pouget before the latter slipped behind Alexandre Albouy, Alexandre Finkelstein (GPA Racing) and Anthony Jurado.

While Marc Guillot completed the opening lap in the lead, his challengers were fighting hard. Nicolas Milan and Alexandre Albouy quickly got past Jerzy Spinkiewicz, who then had to battle Anthony Jurado and Alexandre Finkelstein.

Despite a wheel lock on lap four, the leader held the position as Nicolas Milan's attempt finally turned to Alexandre Albouy's advantage as Anthony Jurado took fourth place from Jerzy Spinkiewicz.

Nicolas Milan then tried to regain his position, but light contact with Alexandre Albouy allowed those behind to close the gap. Anthony Jurado made the most of the situation to overtake the two men and attack Marc Guillot, thanks to the ever-present slipstreaming at Hockenheim.

After a few laps of observation, Anthony Jurado attacked his teammate on lap nine, but Marc Guillot countered. In a tighter-than-ever leading group, Nicolas Milan tried to go for a gap in the Stadium, but Anthony Jurado didn't budge and took the lead before new battles with four abreast in the Parabolika.

The fight for victory was decided in the final minutes, as Anthony Jurado and Nicolas Milan pulled away from the field, but their positions remained unchanged. After having lost on Saturday, Anthony Jurado got his revenge on his team manager by winning in front of Nicolas Milan.

After a stout duel with Jerzy Spinkiewicz, Alexandre Albouy won the Challengers Cup and completed the podium ahead of Marc Guillot, who got past Alexandre Finkelstein on the last lap.

Nikola Miljkovic (Tempo Racing Team) put in a solid drive and moved up from fourteenth to sixth place, followed by Aurélien Renet (JSB Compétition) and Andreas Stucki (Stucki Motorsport).

Tomas Pekar (Carpek Service) was initially ninth but received a post-race penalty for having caused a collision with Léo Jousset (Milan Compétition) two laps from the finish.

David Pouget (GPA Racing) and Léo Jousset gained one place a piece to complete the top ten. Fabien Frazao (GM Sport) also lost his Gentlemen Drivers category win to Pierre Monmaneix for overtaking under yellow.

CLIO CUP EUROPE

Anthony Jurado won the Clio Cup Europe ahead of Nicolas Milan and Marc Guillot. His fifth victory in ten races takes him to third place in the general classification ahead of David Pouget and behind his two teammates.

First-time Challengers Cup winner Nikola Miljkovic finished ahead of Guillaume Maio (GM Sport) and Juuso Panttila (Carpek Service) in a category still dominated by Jerzy Spinkiewicz despite his retirement.

René Steenmetz (Chefo Sport), who could not start on Saturday, got his revenge with his first win since Zandvoort, beating points-leader Stephan Polderman (Chefo Sport) and Michel Faye (GM Sport).

CLIO CUP EASTERN EUROPE

With his comeback, Anthony Jurado also won for the third time in a row in the Clio Cup Eastern Europe. Third in the general classification, the Frenchman continues to close in on leader Marc Guillot and Tomas Pekar.

Like on Saturday, Marc Guillot and Andreas Stucki completed the overall podium while Juuso Panttila (Carpek Service) took his sixth victory on the bounce in the Challengers Cup and his first step towards the crown by beating Lin Chen Han (Uniq Racing) and Henrik Seibel (Carpek Service) again.

René Steenmetz took the lead over Stephan Polderman to sit 18 points behind his teammate and title rival.

CLIO CUP FRANCE

The races for the titles are back on in Clio Cup France. Winner ahead of Challengers Alexandre Albouy and Alexandre Finkelstein, Nicolas Milan is now on level footing with David Pouget, with the lowest result of the season being dropped, as the points scored in the season finale at Circuit Paul Ricard cannot be removed.

In the Challengers Cup, Alexandre Albouy took advantage of his success against Alexandre Finkelstein and Aurélien Renet to increase his lead, but his opponents are still in contention for the title, as are Léo Jousset, but also Joran Leneutre and Jerzy Spinkiewicz, who both retired on Sunday.

The final sprint also promises to be explosive in the Gentlemen Drivers Cup, where Mathieu Rigoulet (Vic'Team) retains a shortened lead after Pierre Monmaneix (GPA Racing) won ahead of Laurent Dziadus (Team Lucas) and Benjamin Cauvas (GPA Racing).

The Clio Cup competitors will be back in action on Thursday at the Red Bull Ring for round 11. The weekend will also be round six of Clio Cup Europe, round four of the Clio Cup Italia and round five of the Clio Cup Eastern Europe. Forty cars are expected in Austria.
