BOSS GP Le Castellet - Legendary cars met legendary drivers

21.06.2022: BOSS GP RACING SERIES: SEASON RACES 5 AND 6 LE CASTELLET In front of the gleaming eyes of French racing legends Jean Alesi, Rene Arnoux and Jean-Pierre Jarier, the BOSS GP drivers and their unique bolides braved the heat of the Cote d'Azur.

In front of the gleaming eyes of French racing legends Jean Alesi, Rene Arnoux and Jean-Pierre Jarier, the BOSS GP drivers and their unique bolides braved the heat of the Cote d'Azur.

-    Legends met at the Grand Prix de France Historique

-    Victories for Gerstl, Schlegelmilch and Chovanec-Lopez as favourites

-    Surprise by Alexander Geier in SUPER LIGHTS class

The atmosphere at the third event of the 2022 BOSS GP season was unique: visitors had the opportunity to buy tickets for the grid walk. This allowed them to experience the excitement before the start first hand and to get closer to the Big Open Single Seaters than ever before.

Hundreds of fans took advantage of this along with the French racing legends Jean Alesi, Rene Arnoux and Jean-Pierre Jarier. They were available for souvenir photos, as were the BOSS GP cars and their present-day drivers.

BOSS GP F1 Class

Toro Rosso, Benetton and Jaguar in the same race – this unique picture was delivered by the BOSS GP Racing Series on the Grand Prix circuit of Le Castellet. The legendary Formula 1 cars completed the first race laps in formation, but in the end, as in the previous races of the season, Ingo Gerstl (AUT, Top Speed) climbed to the top of the podium.

The Toro Rosso driver took both race wins ahead of Ulf Ehninger (GER, ESBA Racing) in the Benetton B197 and Didier Sirgue (FRA, LRS Racing) in the Jaguar R2.

Harald Schlegelmilch (LVA, HS Engineering) in the World Series bolide with upgraded V8 engine chased the Formula 1 cars again. The Latvian won the OPEN class for cars without a displacement limit, which was newly introduced this year.

To the delight of the fans who held out in the heat, he did some donuts after Sunday's race, immortalising himself at the Circuit Paul Ricard.

Portuguese Zdenek Chovanec-Lopez (MM International) was unbeatable once again. With victories four and five of the season, he consolidated his lead in the FORMULA class. Simone Colombo (ITA, MM International) and Marco Ghiotto (ITA, Scuderia Palladio) continued their duel from the last race weekend at the Red Bull Ring seamlessly.

The whole race Ghiotto "hung" in Colombo's gearbox, he tried to pass Colombo several times, even on the approach to the "Signe" curve at the end of the long Mistral straight. In the end, it was Colombo again who was able to maintain second place ahead of Ghiotto, as he had done in Spielberg.

He managed to do the same on Sunday, but this time Colombo defended the position in the last third of the race against Marc Faggionato (MCO, Zig-Zag). With his tyres degrading towards the end of the race, Colombo held his nerve to take second place, while Faggionato managed a conciliatory result with third place after retiring early in race one following a spin.

Ghiotto retired in the second race in the early stages. For the overall standings, this means a setback: The defending champion is now already 47 points behind Chovanec-Lopez and 35 behind Colombo.

Alexander Geier (AUT, Geier Racing) sensationally managed to do the double at his BOSS GP racing debut: The Austrian, who is only 16 years old, even duelled in his V6 World Series car with the faster FORMULA cars at times. With two race wins and the full points tally this weekend, he was also able to gain a few points on the first-placed driver in the overall standings, Andreas Hasler (AUT, Hasler Motorsport).

The BOSS GP Racing Series now takes an extended summer break. Nevertheless, the teams are still working, as they are using the time to revise the high-end racing cars and make them ready for the second half of the season. In twelve weeks, Europe's fastest racing series continues its tour. At the traditional Masaryk Racing Days in Brno from 9 to 11 September, races 7 and 8 of the season await.

Didier Sirgue (FRA, LRS Racing), 3rd place in BOSS GP F1 class:
"Driving a Formula 1 is a dream. My dream has become a reality. The Circuit Paul Ricard is very suitable for it because the track is fast and safe. The Jaguar R2 is already 20 years old, but it's like new and still beautiful. I am very happy to have been involved in BOSS GP again. It's a fantastic series with a great team spirit even among the competitors."

Simone Colombo (ITA, MM International), currently second overall in BOSS GP FORMULA class:

"I'm enjoying all the races this year, it's always exciting. The most difficult thing in these duels was not to make a mistake, luckily, I managed to do that. I was able to bring home a trophy for second place at all the tracks this year, my teammate Chovanec-Lopez is in a league of his own."

Alexander Geier (AUT, Geier Racing), double winner BOSS GP SUPER LIGHTS class:

"These were my first races BOSS GP, which was of course very exciting. The start is the most spectacular, it feels like in Formula 1. After the fire in Hockenheim, we had to replace a lot, that also cost a lot of money. So it was all the better that everything worked this weekend."

Top-3 in standings after 3 of 6 events:

BOSS GP F1: 1st Ingo Gerstl (150 points), 2nd Ulf Ehninger (116), 3rd Thomas Jackermeier (44)

BOSS GP OPEN: 1st Harald Schlegelmilch (150), 2nd Anton Werner (44)

BOSS GP FORMULA: 1st Zdenek Chovanec-Lopez (147), 2nd Simone Colombo (135), 3rd Marco Ghiotto (100)

BOSS GP SUPER LIGHTS: 1st Andreas Hasler (119), 2nd Alexander Geier (50)
