FRD-managed team continues to lead CTCC after Korean Round

Despite having a number of challenges in front of the team for the event, the Changan Ford Racing Team continued to show strong performance in China Touring Car Championship competition.

The Changan Ford Racing Team emerged from the double-header race weekend at Korean International Circuit with the team championship lead.

Changan Ford Racing Team driver Rainey He notched two top-five results on the weekend, insuring that Ford also continued to maintain its Manufacturer Championship lead with four rounds of racing now in the books.

The Changan Ford Racing Team is operated by Formula Racing Development (FRD), which also manages the Asian Formula Renault and Clio Cup Championships.

Having earned 105kg of success ballast from the huge double-win weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit in June, the Changan Ford Racing Team focused on generating a consistent pace to bring home the results.

The team also had to deal with the added setback posed by the lack of availability for a proper fuel mixture.  But with a focus on generating as many points as possible, Changan Ford Racing continued  to make the most of the Korean event weekend.

“I’m very proud of the effort put forth by the team and drivers,” said team technical director Brian Ma.  “The team worked tirelessly late into the night to improve the cars. Despite all these obstacles being thrown our way, the Changan Ford Team did the best we could under some trying circumstances.”

The first race of the weekend saw Changan Ford driver Andy Yan take third at the finish, with fellow Changan Ford teammate Rainey He generating a healthy haul of championship points with his run to fourth place.

The second race of the weekend saw Rainey He score even more championship markers with his second place finish coming just .387-seconds behind the race winner.  Martin Chao made an inspired charge through the field to come home in fourth after starting from the back of the pack.

“I had a good start in the 2nd race, and that led me to have advantage in competing with the cars in front,” said Rainey He. “The result brought me to the top of the driver list in CTCC at this moment, which is very encouraging for me and the team.”

The next round of the CTCC takes place at the Guangdong International Circuit on August 28th.
