Frédéric Vervisch - Asian F3 title within reach!

A month after the races of Batangas, the F3 participants gathered again at the Philippine circuit for the fourth round of the Asian Formula 3 Championship.

With the events of the last racing weekend fresh in mind, Frédéric took part in the practice session, which he dominated smashing the old lap record with almost five tenths. Frédérics rival Hamad Al Fardan, who was more than a second slower, could not bear his lack of speed. The driver from Bahrain accused Frédéric and Team Goddard of cheating and declared his withdrawal from Asian Formula 3.

"With Al Fardan’s withdrawal from the championship, we lose a rival and that’s a pity. But the fact that he attacked us in the press with this kind of allegations is going way too far. It would have been more appropriate of him to file an official complaint", Fred said.

Frédéric answered these allegations with the fastest laptime during qualifying, followed by three victories and three fastest laps. Only during the fourth race, Fred had some difficulties. "It started raining just before the lights went green. We had miscalculated and started with a dry weather set-up. It was too late to do something about it, but we were able to change from slicks to rain tyres.

Nevertheless there was a lot of aquaplaning and it was difficult to keep the car on the track", explained Frédéric, who is known as an excellent rain driver. "I went off three times and each time I missed the wall by only a few inches." In the end, the Belgian racer was able to finish second.

"Notwithstanding the problems during the last race, this was an excellent weekend thanks to Team Goddard. It’s a shame we were not able to put the cherry on the cake during the last race. We were fast and a fourth victory would have been very nice. But we’re not unhappy because we increased our lead in the championship and that puts us in a good position for the title."
