• Rishover and Spence to race for Nielsen Racing in new British series
• Ex F3 and Formula Ford Champion Spence returns to racing
• Nielsen Racing to enter two Ligier JS P3s in UK Championship
British racing driver, Jamie Spence will make a return to racing as he signs up to enter the 2017 Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship alongside Jason Rishover.
Jamie won the 1992 British Formula Ford Championship, following that with a win in the 1993 British Formula Three National Class Championship. He has also raced in the British Touring Car Championship but is now returning to racing after 16 years by joining Jason in the Ligier JS P3.
The pair will race a Ligier JS P3 in the ACO-backed British championship. Jason has previously raced Radical sports cars in the UK and Europe but will be making the switch to sports prototypes for 2017 by entering the brand new British LMP3 series.
Jason and Jamie’s Ligier JS P3 will be run by Corby-based team Nielsen Racing. The team is also running a Ligier JS P3 for Colin Noble and Alasdair McCaig under the Ecurie Ecosse banner.
The Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship will begin at Donington Park next weekend (22-23 April). The series will then visit Brands Hatch, Spa Francorchamps (Belgium), Silverstone and Snetterton with the final round held at Donington Park in September.
Jamie Spence:
“I can’t wait to get back in a racing car again. Apart from a few races in 2015, it’s been a long time since I was last racing competitively.
I loved the Ligier JS P3 when Jason and I tested it a few weeks ago. I think the series will be really good for guys like Jason - it’s a starting point for racing prototypes in Europe and a stepping stone to the Le Mans 24 Hours, which is perfect.”
Jason Rishover:
“I’m really excited to be racing in the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship and to be racing alongside a driver of Jamie’s calibre is fantastic.
We tested the Ligier JS P3 at one of the Ligier UK exclusive test days and loved the car. I think it’s the perfect car for the next step in my racing career. The championship is great too, a brilliant place to make a start on the road to Le Mans.”
Richard Dean, Liger UK:
“It is fantastic to see Jamie returning to racing and in a Ligier JS P3, it’s a great combination. I have known Jamie for a long time. I watched him win in karts right through to F3 and he is just plain fast!
Both Jason and Jamie have tested with us and they adapted to the LMP3 car straight away so I’m confident they will both be very competitive in the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship. It’s great to have the Nielsen Racing Team enter the championship and now expand to two cars. These are exactly the kind of quality teams and drivers we want to be attracting to the series.”
