Jota set for two-car assault on Porsche Carrera Cup GB
|
Kent-based sportscar outfit, Team Jota, will expand its racing programme in 2008 to incorporate a new, two-car assault on the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.
The move is a precursor to entering the international Porsche Supercup in 2009 and the squad will likely enter two or three of the grand prix support races this year alongside their British championship commitments.
Since its formation in 2000, Team Jota has developed an impressive record in international sportscar racing, running both private and factory LMP1 Zytek entries both at Le Mans and in the American and European-based Le Mans Series, as well as the Charouz Racing Systems Lola in 2007. With significant investment supporting the Carrera Cup expansion, the teams 2008 sportscar programme will continue unaffected.
The outfit now have two brand new 997 GT3 Cup cars on order and with 2007 race winner, Sam Hancock, already signed to one of the seats, team manager Sam Hignett is confident that the outfit can be competitive from the off:
"This is a new and hugely exciting chapter in the history of Team Jota, but we dont underestimate the challenge one little bit. The Porsche Carrera Cup has gone from strength to strength in recent years and the quality of teams and drivers at the front of the field is exceptional.
The fact that Carrera Cup GB graduate Richard Westbrook won his second consecutive Porsche Super Cup title last year and double GB champion Damien Faulkner finished as runner-up in his first season on the international scene, shows exactly how strong the championship is. Were in the process of finalising the technical staff now and are taking the time to select a strong driver to put alongside Sam, who we are of course delighted to have on board."
Porsche General Manager of Marketing Geoff Turral said: "We are delighted to welcome Team Jota to Porsche Carrera Cup GB. They have a fantastic pedigree in international sportcar racing and will be a fine addition to the grid of the UKs premier one make series."
